According to the national legislative institution, “this meeting with parliaments of the world is an occasion for exchange, dialogue and cooperation, but also an opportunity to showcase the Morocco’s achievements in various fields”, MP Abdelmajid Fassi Fihri, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who is taking part in the meeting, told MAP.
“The OECD carries out research and makes proposals on various issues, but it is ultimately parliaments that can implement reforms, hence the importance of the legislative aspect” of this meeting, he noted.
Speaking at a session devoted to climate change, Fassi Fihri stressed the importance of highlighting Morocco’s efforts and proactive action to tackle water stress, as demonstrated by various projects initiated in this area, citing, among others, seawater desalination plants.
For the Moroccan MP, these projects have made the Kingdom “a benchmark” in the fight against climate change within an international institution such as the OECD, along with all the world’s parliaments.
In addition to the climate issue, the MP cited other central themes to Morocco’s participation at this meeting, notably those relating to development.
The OECD Global Parliamentary Network brings together national, supranational and regional legislators to foster collaboration and dialogue at multiple levels.
Established in 2011, it strives to be a legislative learning forum for legislators and parliamentary staff. Its flexible structure helps parliamentarians share experiences, identify best practices and foster international cooperation on legislative matters.
