The suspect, aged 43, was caught in the act of preparing an illegal immigration operation to Europe by sea, in favor of eight candidates for illegal immigration, according to a security source, adding that searches led to the seizure of a fishing boat, two marine engines and a sum of money likely to be the booty of this criminal activity.

A check of the defendant against the National Security database revealed that the main suspect was subject of a nationwide search warrant issued by the Royal Gendarmerie in Al Hoceima, for his alleged involvement in a similar case linked to organizing illegal immigration operations and human trafficking.

The respondent was placed in police custody, while the other would-be illegal immigrants were subjected to a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office in order to determine the ins and outs of this case, the same source emphasized.

Investigations are still underway to apprehend all other individuals involved in these criminal acts.

Al Hoceima's Regional Security policemen arrested on Thursday in coordination with services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), an individual suspected of being part of a criminal network active in the organization of irregular immigration operations and human trafficking.
