Speaking during the plenary session, the representative of the national section of the Istiqlali group for Unity and Egalitarianism, MP Abdelali Barouki, congratulated the newly elected president of the Central American Parliament, Carlos René Hernández Castillo from the Republic of El Salvador, as well as the members of the Bureau on their election for the 2024-2025 term, according to a press release from the House of Representatives.
After expressing his thanks to the members of the Central American Parliament, he emphasized the importance of this regional organization in strengthening the principles of democracy, human rights, and integration among the countries of the region.
He also reaffirmed the Moroccan Parliament’s commitment to continue cooperation and strengthen its partnership with the Central American Parliament in various areas, including migration, youth and women empowerment, combating the effects of climate change, and food security.
On the sidelines of this participation, the representative of the Moroccan section held a meeting with the President of the Central American Parliament, focusing on ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between Morocco and the Central American Parliament by intensifying joint activities.
In this context, it was proposed to organize a forum on migration and hosting, as well as for the Moroccan Parliament to host one of the sessions of the Central American Parliament.
The meeting also addressed the development momentum in the southern provinces of the Kingdom and the growing recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, particularly by major powers.
The plenary session was marked by the adoption of the annual work program, as well as discussions and the adoption of several reports and resolutions on migration, the integration of people with disabilities, the ceasefire in Gaza, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the Central American region.
