Speaking at the House of Councilors’ question time, Akhannouch cited several flagship initiatives, such as the “Emergence Plan” launched in 2005, the National Pact for Industrial Emergence (2009), the Industrial Acceleration Plan 2014-2020, as well as the Investment Charter (2022).
These ambitious strategies have been backed by strategic infrastructure projects, notably the Tanger-Med port, the leading container port in the Mediterranean and Africa, and fourth worldwide in terms of efficiency, as well as a major motorway network of 1,800 km currently compared to 80 km in 1999, he recalled.
The Head of Government also stated that the Kingdom has mobilized over 13,600 hectares of industrial land and established 150 industrial zones, commending the active involvement of all stakeholders in driving the country’s industrialization process.
He emphasized that the outcomes of social dialogue, particularly in improving the conditions of employees and the working class, will positively influence industrial development, noting that Morocco continues to pursue a renewed and sustainable industrial policy, designed to address the rapid shifts in the global economy and reinforce national sovereignty in industrialization.
In this context, he recalled the Royal message addressed to the participants in the 1st edition of the National Industry Day in March 2023, in which the Sovereign insisted on the need for Morocco to “fully prepared to enter a new industrial era in which the concept of sovereignty is both a goal and a means.”
In this message, His Majesty the King stressed that the Kingdom “needs an industry that incorporates new activities and skills, and creates more jobs”, Akhannouch recalled.
The Head of Government underscored the priority placed by His Majesty the King on the industrial sector, describing it as a crucial driver of inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development, noting its significant contributions to GDP growth, job creation, and foreign currency inflows, positioning it as a cornerstone of the national economy.
He also commended the remarkable progress achieved by Moroccan industry in recent years, attributing this success to the Kingdom’s commitment to economic openness and the implementation of ambitious, well-defined strategies rooted in an integrated spatial development vision.
