“It’s a good win, we want to top the group and that’s what we’re going to confirm on Monday” against Lesotho for the 6th matchday for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, Regragui stated at the post-match press briefing.
Expressing his satisfaction with the Atlas Lions’ good performance during this game, the head coach stressed that there was still work to be done, “It was an away match that we wanted to experiment with. We had the right scenario of being behind to know how to react,” he added.
“We conceded a goal early on but we reacted like a great team and quickly equalized,” Regragui explained.
“I’m lucky to have a quality bench and some very good up-and-coming players,” he enthused, pointing out that the national team was a little more solid defensively, while delivering a similar performance as the last match on the attacking front.
For Regragui, this match was also a good opportunity to give more confidence and value to the defensive duo Nayef Aguerd and Jamal Harkass, particularly with the return of Noussair Mazraoui.
Following this match, Morocco confirms its position on top of Group B with 15 points through five wins, ahead of Gabon, who qualifies for AFCON (7 points). Lesotho rank third with 4 points, while the Central African Republic occupy fourth and last place, 3 points each.
Next Monday, Morocco takes on Lesotho at Oujda’s Stade d’Honneur, for the 6th and final round of qualifiers for 2025 AFCON, to be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
