The operation, carried out with intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), took place on the coast of Sidi Ishak, between Safi and Essaouira. Authorities intercepted a freight truck loaded with the drugs as it was being prepared for transfer onto two inflatable boats.

Police also seized marine engines, navigation equipment, and other materials used in the smuggling attempt, according to a DGSN statement.

Investigations are ongoing under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office to identify suspects and determine potential national and international links to the trafficking network.

The bust forms part of Morocco’s broader crackdown on transnational drug trafficking operations.

Moroccan police foiled an attempted maritime smuggling operation early Tuesday, seizing 17.74 tonnes of cannabis resin (chira), the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said.
