“At a time when deadly illusions of denial of the other flourish, Morocco embodies what the alliance of civilizations means to the world: listening to all narratives and respecting the identity, history and spirituality of each,” Addahre said, speaking at the inauguration at UNESCO headquarters of the exhibition “Morocco: Tradition of Openness and Peace,” highlighting Morocco’s rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
Custodians of a heritage deep-rooted in a simultaneously African, Amazigh, Arab-Muslim, Hassani, Jewish, Andalusi and Mediterranean culture, Moroccans, he said, “proudly share, on a daily basis, a tradition of openness and peace as assets for the future of their country, with its 12 regions contributing to the expansion of its cultural diversity.”
“We are proud to be this land that unites thousands of Muslims, Jews and Christians to happily live together and state their commitment to universality and the primacy of life,” Addahre added.
In this respect, the ambassador underscored that “Morocco embodies this reality while staying loyal to all paradigms and criteria of a culture of peace maintained by dignity and justice for all.”
Under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, fervent defender of the values of openness and peace, the Kingdom of Morocco preserves and consolidates its long tradition of coexistence and solidarity, he stated.
“These sacred values dictate Morocco’s multilateral action within UN organizations, including UNESCO in which education, culture, science and communication are the founding pillars of international solidarity based on respect and mutual understanding,” he said.
“It is in this spirit that the Kingdom of Morocco would like to contribute by becoming a member of the Executive Council with the kind support of member States during the 43th session of the General Conference, set to take place in the beautiful historical city of Samarkand,” he added.
