This operation, conducted based on precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), led to the arrest of the primary suspect in the act of attempting to facilitate the clandestine migration of seven individuals from the coastal area of Imzouren, a security source said, adding that the migrants were apprehended at the scene.

The search operation resulted in the seizure of two makeshift boats equipped with motors, moored at the artisanal fishing port in the Driouch area. Authorities also confiscated sums of money found in the possession of the intercepted migrants, suspected to be payments for the illegal journey.

A background check on the main suspect in the national security database revealed prior criminal records related to human trafficking and the organization of illegal migration, the same source added.

The suspect has been placed in custody, while the migrants are subject to an ongoing judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to determine the full circumstances of the case and any potential national or international connections.

Police officers in Al-Hoceima successfully thwarted, on Friday evening, an illegal maritime migration attempt.
