These discussions took place on the sidelines of Ould Errachid’s participation in the 43rd meeting of the Forum of Presidents of Legislative Powers of Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico (FOPREL), held on Thursday in the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula.
The meeting provided an opportunity to explore prospects for parliamentary cooperation between the Moroccan House of Councillors and the National Congress of Honduras, both bilaterally and multilaterally, notably through FOPREL which is chaired by Rolando Redondo and is an important platform for inter-regional parliamentary dialogue.
In this respect, the Upper House Speaker stressed the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between Morocco and Honduras, highlighting the role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting bilateral cooperation on the political, economic and cultural levels.
He also underscored that the efforts of the House of Councillors to promote relations with the National Congress of this Central American country fall in line with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, relating to bolstering South-South cooperation, the diversification of partners and openness to different regions of the world, in accordance with an approach that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Morocco.
For his part, the President of the National Congress of Honduras welcomed Morocco’s commitment to developing relations with the countries of Central America and the Caribbean, underlining the role played by the Kingdom’s House of Councillors in establishing platforms for South-South parliamentary dialogue and supporting issues of common interest at international level.
He also praised Morocco’s pioneering role in strengthening cooperation with countries in the region, noting the Kingdom’s strides in promoting sustainable development and reinforcing regional stability and security.
In this context, Redondo Guifarro highlighted Morocco’s pioneering role at regional level, through its initiatives to foster cooperative ties between the countries of the South, and to strengthen integration, the spirit of solidarity and co-development.
The meeting was attended by Councillor Abderrahman El Ouafa, member of the Board of the Chamber of Councillors and its representative to the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino), Secretary General of the House of Councillors El Assad Zerouali, and Chief of Staff to the Upper House Speaker Mansour Lambarki.
