In a press briefing following her talks with the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, the head of São Tomé and Príncipe’s diplomacy reaffirmed her country’s full support for the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco, which constitutes the only credible and realistic solution to this regional dispute.

Amado Vaz also praised the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for reaching a realistic, practical, and lasting solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

The São Toméan top diplomat also expressed her satisfaction with the significant progress made by the Kingdom of Morocco regarding the socio-economic development of the Southern Provinces, through the New Development Model, which promotes stability, security, and regional integration.

São Tomé and Príncipe’s position, as reaffirmed by Amado Vaz, is part of the international momentum driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, in favor of the autonomy plan and the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara.

For his part, Bourita thanked Amado Vaz for her country’s constant and firm support for the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, expressed by many senior São Toméan officials and in numerous international and regional fora.

The minister also welcomed the opening of a Consulate General of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe in Laayoune in January 2020.

São Toméan Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Communities, Ilza Maria dos Santos Amado Vaz, reiterated, on Thursday in Rabat, her country's constant position in favor of Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.
