Speaking at the House of Councillors’ question time, Laftit noted that 3,746 buses will be acquired within the framework of this program, which will involve 37 delegating authorities and all components of delegated management.

This program provides for a separation between investment and operating functions, he stressed, noting that the government will purchase the top-of-the-range buses and take charge of their maintenance, while management will be entrusted to companies.

This program aims to provide sustainable, high-quality services to users, he assured.

Invitations to tender have been launched in the cities of Fez, Marrakech, Tangier, Tetouan, Agadir and Bensliman for the purchase of 1,317 buses, most of which will be put into service before the end of this year, according to the Minister, adding that the bids for these invitations to tender will be opened on March 15.

The other calls for tender will take place progressively, with the aim of putting all these buses into service by 2026, Laftit added, noting that this program represents a pivotal transformation in the field of intra-urban transport.

Morocco has allocated $1.1 billion (11 billion dirhams) to develop a new urban bus transport program for the period 2025-2029, Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit told Parliament on Tuesday.
