Data on the “Wafira” program demonstrate its relevance as a “model of Moroccan-Spanish cooperation in the field of migration”, stressed Saiz Delgado in a statement to the press following talks with the  Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, Younes Sekkouri,

The Spanish Minister also noted that “all the participants have expressed their wish to repeat the experience, while around 66% have significantly improved their financial situation.”

“Participation is eminently female, at over 90%, which is very important in terms of women’s empowerment and commitment to gender equality,” she stressed, adding that ‘Wafira’ is an example of a win-win partnership serving the economic development of both countries.

Ther Spanish Minister highlighted the program’s role in encouraging entrepreneurship, as beneficiaries, back in Morocco, set up their own businesses, not only in retail, but also in all aspects of rural life, which contributes to their personal and professional success.

For his part, Sekkouri described relations between Morocco and Spain as “exceptional,” drawing their strength from the shared destiny and close ties between the two peoples, as well as “the concrete projects we have built together over the years.”

Referring to the “Wafira” program, the Minister expressed his satisfaction with the quality of cooperation with the Spanish authorities, and with the conditions under which beneficiaries stayed, pointing out that 100% of the women registered for the 2024 program were registered with the social security system.

The "Wafira" circular migration program illustrates how “excellent” relations between Morocco and Spain are, and confirms the commitment of both countries to strengthening their cooperation, Spanish Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz Delgado, said on Friday in Rabat.
