The speech delivered on behalf of the Kingdom on this occasion emphasized cybersecurity as an essential strategic necessity for guaranteeing the stability and development of countries, the National Defense Administration said in a press release.

The Kingdom also expressed its deep conviction that cooperation in this vital field, far from being a choice, is an imperative necessity dictated by the global nature of virtual space, the same source stressed.

In this respect, the Kingdom of Morocco welcomed the initiative to set up the Council of Arab Ministers for Cybersecurity, which will help strengthen cooperation between Arab countries in this field, the statement noted, adding that emphasis was also placed on the imperative need to combine efforts to enable Arab countries to reach high levels of maturity in this field, and establish a solid Arab cybersecurity system capable of meeting current challenges.

The Kingdom also reviewed the strategic, regulatory, legal and technical procedures and measures taken in recent years under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at strengthening the security of national institutions’ information systems, as well as supporting and contributing to the success of the digital transition.

These efforts have led to significant progress in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI), published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in which the Kingdom is ranked among the pioneering countries.

Lastly, the Kingdom welcomed the areas of work on the Council’s agenda, notably developing an Arab cybersecurity strategy, implementing joint Arab exercises to simulate cyberattacks, supporting the Arab cybersecurity industry, creating information exchange platforms and converging diplomatic positions on cybersecurity in international forums. In this respect, Morocco has expressed its commitment to actively contribute to all these initiatives.

The Riyadh-based Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council was created on the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the aegis of the League of Arab States. It aims to promote and bolster cooperation, as well as coordinate the efforts of Arab countries on the various aspects of cybersecurity issues.

In application of High Royal Instructions, the General Directorate of Information Systems Security (DGSSI), part of the National Defense Administration, took part on Monday in Riyadh in the first session of the Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council.
