Citing Monday’s announcement by Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch of “an ambitious plan” to increase the capacity of Morocco’s airports, Le Figaro notes that “these efforts not only address the demands of the 2030 World Cup but also aim to boost the country’s flourishing tourism industry.”

The newspaper highlights that Morocco welcomed 15.9 million tourists up to November 2024, marking “a historic record, already surpassing the total for 2023,” noting that beyond airport expansions, significant efforts are focused on extending the high-speed rail network, which is projected to connect 43 cities—reaching 87% of the Moroccan population—by 2040.

In this context, Le Figaro underscores the 2030 World Cup as a “strategic opportunity” for Morocco, with plans to invest up to €500 million in the renovation and expansion of 45 stadiums and training facilities.

This momentum, the newspaper observes, “unfolds in a favorable sporting climate, with Morocco also set to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, further cementing its status as a leading destination for football fans and travelers alike.”

The article concludes that “through these large-scale projects, Morocco is leveraging sports and infrastructure to enhance its appeal and solidify its position as a vital hub between Europe and Africa.”

With the 2030 World Cup on the horizon, to be co-hosted with Spain and Portugal, Morocco is emerging as a premier global tourism destination, driven by significant investments in its airport, rail, and sports infrastructure, the French daily Le Figaro reports.
