ESCWA Hails Morocco's Advances in Technology Transfer, Innovation

During a workshop on technology and innovation, jointly organized by the Agency for Digital Development (ADD), ESCWA, and the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST), Al-Awa highlighted Morocco’s progress, emphasizing its rising position in the Global Innovation Index, where the country now ranks 66th, up from 70th. He noted that this progress reflects Morocco’s ongoing efforts and ambition to continue advancing in the field of innovation.

Al-Awa also highlighted that this workshop provided an opportunity to take stock of outstanding global and Moroccan experiences, and to discuss the next steps for strengthening technology transfer and innovation in Morocco. 

“Digital and emerging technologies provide vast opportunities for innovation,” he said, suggesting that the innovation ecosystem should be supported by appropriate institutions, effective legal frameworks and simplified administrative procedures.

For her part, Head of the Human Capital and Innovation Department at ADD, Salma Karim, shed light on technology transfer as a process for transmitting scientific and technological research, whether from academia, research centers or laboratories, to industry or the market.

She stressed the need to adopt best practices to maximize the chances of success in the development and dissemination of innovations, explaining that these include identifying market needs, protecting intellectual property and setting up effective partnerships.

The Regional Advisor on Technology for Development at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Nawar Al-Awa hailed Morocco's significant advances in technology transfer and innovation, on Thursday in Rabat.
