“Morocco, which has developed several remarkable renewable energy projects, is at the forefront in several sectors, notably hydropower, wind, and solar energy,” Pimenta told MAP on the sidelines of the Africa Financial Summit (AFIS-2024), held on December 9-10 in Casablanca.
He added, “We are very proud to have supported several companies in these projects.” Pimenta cited, as an example, the OCP Group, particularly for fertilizer production and mineral extraction.
He also reiterated the IFC’s commitment to supporting Moroccan companies involved in renewable energy, emphasizing that these projects will be replicated in a number of countries across Africa and worldwide.
Additionally, Pimenta highlighted that Morocco is a significant country for the IFC, with a notable acceleration in innovative operations over the past five years. “We have supported Moroccan banks and companies as they expanded their operations to other countries in Africa, particularly in West Africa.”
According to him, the IFC has aligned with the Moroccan government’s priorities, particularly on issues of regionalization and the development of sustainable infrastructure.
“We have also diversified our portfolio in Morocco to more comprehensively and broadly support the development of the Moroccan economy, with a tangible impact on job creation and new economic opportunities,” Pimenta continued. On another note, he pointed out that Morocco is one of Africa’s most important financial hubs.
“Casablanca is where African financial institutions come together to develop the sector across the continent,” he emphasized, referencing the decision to hold AFIS in Morocco.
