Morocco’s alignment with international climate goals, recent agreements concluded during COP29, and the development of the Morocco-EU Green Partnership bolster the Kingdom’s status as a “major international actor” and a “true green energy bridge between Europe and Africa,” wrote Antonio Vidal in an op-ed on Spanish magazine Atalayar.
Morocco possesses ideal natural resources for green hydrogen production, he observed, highlighting the country’s significant solar and wind potential and its privileged access to the European market.
According to the expert, these advantages, combined with Morocco’s political stability and commitment to sustainable development, have attracted substantial foreign investment in the country’s energy sector.
The agreements reached with the European Union regarding the production and export of green hydrogen offer vast opportunities, he noted, pointing out that Europe, seeking to diversify its energy sources in light of geopolitical crises, regards Morocco as “a reliable partner.”
He added that the growing demand for clean energy and the pressures on the hydrocarbon market create a particularly favorable context.
Convinced that Morocco “is ideally placed to play a leading role in the transition to a hydrogen-based economy,” the expert assured that the Kingdom’s ability to establish itself as an exporter of clean energy will not only strengthen its economy but also contribute to achieving global decarbonization goals.
