Guinean PM Hails Historic Morocco-Guinea Relations

In a statement to the press following his talks with Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, the Guinean PM highlighted the enduring nature of the two countries’ cooperation, describing it as “traditional” and emphasizing its continued growth across various sectors.

Oury reiterated Guinea’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Morocco, which he described as a “reference” for expertise in fields such as economic governance, tourism, and port construction.

He also expressed gratitude for Morocco’s support of Guinean students through an annual scholarship program that provides 250 grants. This initiative, he said, underscores “the excellence of relations” between the two nations.

According to a statement from the Moroccan Prime Minister’s Office, discussions focused on mechanisms to enhance economic ties within the framework of South-South cooperation. This aligns with Morocco’s broader strategy, driven by state visits by HM King Mohammed VI to African nations, to foster development partnerships across the continent.

The talks built on previous milestones, including the signing of a joint communiqué in May 2023 in Rabat and the 7th Morocco-Guinea Joint Commission held in July 2023 in Dakhla. Both events marked a renewed commitment to strategic collaboration under the South-South framework.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea, Bah Oury, on Thursday praised the historic ties between Guinea and Morocco during a visit to Rabat.
