During a ministerial-level meeting, Morocco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the AU and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Mohamed Arrouchi, recalled the speech delivered by HM King Mohammed VI at the 30th AU Summit.

In this address, HM the King affirmed that Morocco “will continue to embrace the noble causes of the continent and will tirelessly work towards consolidating peace, stability, and development in Africa.”

Arrouchi emphasized that this royal vision embodies Morocco’s unwavering commitment to addressing the complex challenges hindering peace and stability in Africa, including prolonged conflicts, armed violence, terrorist activities, and separatist movements.

In this context, Morocco has advocated for a proactive and holistic approach to crisis management, focusing on strengthening preventive mechanisms such as the Continental Early Warning System, and mobilizing appropriate financial, human, and logistical resources.

The diplomat also highlighted the importance of aligning continental efforts with the peace-security-development nexus, an approach championed by Morocco and led by the PSC through the Tangier Process, which should guide the AU’s future strategies.

He noted that, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, Morocco has demonstrated its commitment as an active mediator in several African crises, particularly in the Mano River region, the Sahel, and Libya.

These initiatives align with the royal vision centered on promoting peace through dialogue, preventive diplomacy, and negotiation—principles that are at the heart of Morocco’s approach to international relations.

On this occasion, Arrouchi reaffirmed the importance of strengthened African solidarity, stressing that the PSC’s performance should be evaluated based on tangible achievements on the ground.

He also underscored that preserving the territorial integrity of states, fostering good neighborliness, and adhering to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs must remain guiding principles for the PSC.

Morocco also called for the implementation of Nexus Projects as advocated by the Tangier Declaration, aimed at addressing the structural causes of crises and conflicts by promoting socioeconomic development, thereby building a prosperous Africa aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This royal vision, a cornerstone of Morocco’s action within African institutions, reflects a clear ambition to contribute to the emergence of a united, stable, and prosperous continent, where peace and development endure, Arrouchi concluded.

The royal vision for consolidating peace, stability, and development in Africa was highlighted on Thursday before the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU).
