The 11th Continent showcases audacious and innovative films that shake up cinematic representation, says a press released issued by the Festival’s organizers.
Dimolitsas’s film is an invaluable exploration of the life and legacy of iconic diva Maria Callas, as portrayed by Bellucci. Through intimate memoirs, moving letters, and rare, never-before-seen footage, we journey into Callas’s world—from her modest beginnings in New York City to her triumphs on the global stage.
The film captures two distinct eras: the period when Callas rose to the heights of fame, and today, when her voice continues to resonate. At its heart, this is a dialogue between two women—Callas and Bellucci—who, despite their differing backgrounds, share a profound dedication to their art.
This encounter between past and present reveals the human soul behind the legend and celebrates an artist who transformed her pain into timeless beauty, further notes the organizers’ statement.
The screening of the film is scheduled to take place at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent on Sunday, December 1st, at 5:00 p.m. with director Yannis Dimolitsas in attendance. A conversation with Monica Bellucci about the film follows.
