France Calls Morocco ‘Valuable Partner’ in Security Cooperation

Speaking at a press conference in Rabat after talks with Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit, Retailleau said France was relying on Morocco to intensify joint efforts across key security areas.

He added that his visit “takes place in a very particular context and at a time when the revival of relations between the two countries has never been so intense.” “This is a bilateral relationship that is expanding in all areas, including security,” he stated.

In this regard, he praised the fruitful collaboration with the Moroccan authorities, which led to the recent arrest of high-profile drug traffickers wanted by France, noting that this represents an “unprecedented dynamic” in the relationship and friendship between the two countries.

During this meeting, both ministers reviewed shared priorities and discussed ways to bolster cooperation in line with the Declaration of Reinforced Exceptional Partnership, signed during French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to Morocco in October 2024.

Both sides praised the close coordination and intelligence-sharing between their security services, which they said had helped thwart terrorist plots and dismantle several transnational criminal networks.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau on Monday described Morocco as a “valuable partner” in security cooperation, underscoring the deepening collaboration between the two countries in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.
