“Morocco can leverage digital technology and economic inclusion to maximise its development potential,” Al Dardari underlined during a conference in Rabat organised by the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS).

Al Dardari, who also serves as UN Under-Secretary-General and UNDP Deputy Administrator, said Morocco is entering a “new phase” in its development journey and must now “shift gears” to consolidate its progress from the past 25 years.

He noted that the Kingdom is relatively well-positioned to navigate the current global economic headwinds and can use technology as a strategic tool to advance its long-term goals.

Earlier this week, Morocco and the UNDP signed a declaration of intent to establish a regional Arab-African digital hub focused on artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and technological innovation.

The initiative, called the “Morocco Digital for Sustainable Development Hub,” aims to integrate AI into public services, develop interoperable digital infrastructure, and promote inclusive and responsible digital policies.

The hub is part of broader efforts to foster regional cooperation in digital transformation and sustainable development across Africa and the Arab world.

Morocco is placing digital transformation at the heart of its development strategy as it seeks to accelerate economic inclusion and boost youth and female participation, Abdallah Al Dardari, Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States, said on Friday.
