The meeting took place on the eve of the 4th edition of the “Safer Skies” International Forum on Aviation Safety, with discussions focusing on the growing challenges facing the global civil aviation sector and exploring bilateral opportunities to address these issues.

Both officials emphasized the importance of enhancing national capabilities in aviation security and safety, underscoring the need to continue efforts in training and skills development, as well as in sharing expertise.

Kayouh and Sciacchitano also agreed to collaborate on organizing future meetings and seminars aimed at elevating aviation safety standards in Morocco and reinforcing the Kingdom’s status as a responsible and strategic partner within the global civil aviation system.

In a statement to MAP following the meeting, Sciacchitano expressed his satisfaction in representing ICAO at the forum, which he described as addressing “critical issues related to flights in conflict zones.” He called for continued collaboration to tackle these challenges.

Kayouh noted that more than 60 countries are participating in the forum to discuss ways to improve air transport safety and harmonize conflict zone avoidance strategies across the aviation sector.

He added that the meeting provides an opportunity to assess progress made since the forum’s third edition, and that concrete recommendations will be formulated to advance toward a “safer and better-managed sky.”

Hosted by Morocco, the “Safer Skies” Forum will run from April 8–10 and will bring together ICAO representatives, risk management experts, and global delegations to discuss methods of protecting civil flights operating near or over conflict zones and to develop joint solutions to the rising safety risks posed by armed conflicts.

In a bid to bolster cooperation between Morocco and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, held talks on Monday in Marrakech with the President of the ICAO Council, Salvatore Sciacchitano.
