“It’s a real model for other countries. They (the reform programs) are very serious and are part of a long-term vision for the country,” Grynspan told the press following a meeting with Morocco’s minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, Younes Sekkouri.

The UN official emphasized the multi-sectoral nature of these efforts. The Moroccan authorities are “investing, on the one hand, in logistics, but also in human resources, skills, employment, and entrepreneurship in small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the cornerstone of the social contract,” she stressed.

The high-level meeting, which took place in the presence of Omar Zniber, Morocco’s ambassador and permanent representative in Geneva, provided an opportunity to discuss a number of major projects undertaken by the Kingdom.

On this occasion, the Moroccan Initiative for Atlantic Cooperation, launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was highlighted.

Discussions also focused on ways of strengthening cooperation between the ministry and UNCTAD, which plays an important role in trade development and the integration of trade, development, and social issues.

“This is important because development programs must be at the service of society, and at this level we have an important effort to make together,” Sekkouri told MAP.

With this in mind, a number of tangible avenues for collaboration have been identified. “We have identified very specific projects in the field of entrepreneurship, particularly for women, in e-commerce and in equipping young people and entrepreneurs” in this area, he stated.

During his two-day working visit to Geneva, Sekkouri held a series of other meetings with the heads of several international organizations and UN agencies, including the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Morocco represents "a real model" for other countries, thanks to the various serious reform programs being implemented there, UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan said in Geneva on Thursday.
