“The goal we conceded was a wake-up call, reminding us of the challenges ahead. It helped us react well in the final 30 minutes, showing great spirit,” Regragui said in his post-match press conference following Morocco’s win on Matchday 5 of Group E.

“It was a well-earned victory,” he added, praising the impact of his tactical adjustments.

With the AFCON on the horizon, the national team’s head coach hinted at potential changes within the squad. “Nothing is set in stone. When players impress, they create competition, and that gives us more options,” he said, highlighting the depth at his disposal.

“These kinds of matches are stepping stones for our development,” Regragui noted. “I expected a tough battle—every team wants to beat us.”

Despite the challenge, he views the game as a positive test: “It will help us improve and fine-tune our preparations for future fixtures.”

Meanwhile, Niger’s Moroccan head coach, Badou Zaki, pointed to a lack of freshness in his squad.

“We played against the best team in Africa, and though my players gave everything, we lacked the physical sharpness to capitalize on our efforts,” Zaki remarked. “Still, we showed we can compete at a high level.”

Niger’s coach acknowledged the value of facing a side as dynamic as Morocco, stating, “This was a beneficial test against a team capable of changing a game in an instant.”

Morocco’s fourth consecutive win sees them tighten their grip on Group E with 12 points, six ahead of Niger and Tanzania. Zambia trails in fourth with three points.

Up next, the Atlas Lions host Tanzania in Oujda on Tuesday at 21:30 (local time), as they continue their march towards World Cup qualification.

Morocco’s national head coach Walid Regragui said, on Friday in Oujda, that the national team’s victory over Niger will serve as a crucial learning experience as they prepare for both the Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
