Morocco Leading Fight Against Islamist Terrorism – French Pundit

Reacting to the thwarting of an extremely serious terrorist plot targeting Morocco—instigated and directly encouraged by a senior leader of the Daech organization operating in the Sahel region—as well as to the investigations conducted by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), which gathered field information supported by technical data on the existence of a mountainous area suspected of being used as a logistical support base for weapons and ammunition destined for the members of this cell to execute their terrorist plans, Juillet highlighted “the professionalism, efficiency, and foresight of Moroccan security services.”  

Juillet, who mentioned the presence of radical Islamist strongholds in the Sahel, pointed out that the ability of security services to anticipate threats is “extremely important” to prevent these individuals from carrying out attacks.  

In this regard, he stressed that Morocco is known as “one of the most effective countries in the fight against terrorism, thanks to the anticipation capabilities of its services and their expertise and deep understanding of these networks, which allow them to quickly identify terrorist risks and threats.”  

He also recalled the “excellent” level of cooperation between France and Morocco in this area.  

“Moroccan security services achieve very good results. They are well-informed. The latest operation proves that they were able to act effectively before the attacks could take place. And that is crucial in counterterrorism,” Juillet said, adding that “analyzing the results of the investigations carried out in this case will not only clarify the details of the plot but also reveal connections in other countries, because Islamist terrorism operates on an international scale.”
