The Moroccan delegation’s participation in this event is part of the Moroccan Parliament’s efforts to bolster the channels of parliamentary diplomacy and consolidate political dialogue and cooperation with the Kingdom’s partners, particularly in Europe, according to a press release from the legislative institution.
Morocco’s Parliament, which holds the status of Mediterranean partner for cooperation within this organization, was represented at this meeting by a parliamentary delegation comprising, from the House of Representatives, Marouane Chbaatou, from the National Rally of Independents group, Khalid Hatimi, from the Authenticity and Modernity group, and Najib El Khaldi, from the Istiqlal of Unity and Egalitarianism group.
From the House of Councillors, the delegation comprised Mohamed Boudes, from the National Rally of Independents group, and Lahcen Aït Isha, from the Authenticity and Modernity group.
The event was well attended by national parliamentary delegations from several countries, as well as experts, diplomatic representatives, renowned researchers and academics specializing in the issues on the meeting’s agenda.
Over the course of two days, participants tackled a number of issues of international interest in the work of the four committees, including the consolidation of international peace and security, the repercussions of climate change, the issue of migration, and the future of common European security.
The meeting was also devoted to presenting the reports of the general committees for discussion at the next annual meeting, scheduled to take place in Porto, Portugal, in early July 2025.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the delegation from the House of Representatives held a series of bilateral meetings with several participating delegations, focusing on ways of strengthening bilateral relations between Morocco and several OSCE member countries.
In this context, the delegation met with French Senator Pascal Allizard, Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Special Representative for the Mediterranean.
The meeting focused on ways of developing relations between Mediterranean countries in preparation for the next edition of the OSCE Mediterranean Parliamentary Forum, which represents an opportunity to promote dialogue between Mediterranean countries and open up new prospects for cooperation and coordination at different levels.
The meeting was also an opportunity for both parties to praise the depth of fraternal and historic relations between Morocco and France, and their overall development, particularly following the historic visit to the Kingdom by French President Emmanuel Macron, at the invitation of HM King Mohammed VI, which opened a new page in the process of bilateral relations and their shared future.
The two parties also highlighted the excellent cooperation between the French Senate and the Kingdom of Morocco’s House of Representatives.
