Speaking to MAP on the sidelines of the conference, Hilale said the event reflects global confidence in Morocco’s multilateral engagement, particularly its dedication to South-South cooperation, which he described as an “integrated policy that has drawn international recognition.”

“Morocco is the first African and Arab country to host this major gathering, a clear signal of support for Africa, where nearly 25% of global road fatalities occur,” he said.

Hilale emphasized Morocco’s role in rallying international efforts to enhance road safety, particularly in Africa, where road accidents pose a major obstacle to development and prosperity. He highlighted national initiatives, including integrating road safety considerations into budgeting and raising public awareness on responsible driving.

African ministers, he noted, have expressed interest in learning from Morocco’s experience, particularly through the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA), in line with South-South cooperation principles.

“Morocco is committed to sharing its successes with its partners and brotherly nations,” Hilale said, adding that the launch of the HM King Mohammed VI International Prize for Road Safety in Marrakech further reflects the country’s leadership in the field.

The Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, held under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, is organized by Morocco’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics in partnership with the World Health Organization.

Themed “Commit to Life,” the event is drawing official delegations from more than 100 countries, including ministers responsible for transport, interior affairs, infrastructure, and health.

The 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, hosted in Marrakech, underscores Morocco’s international credibility and commitment to road safety under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, the kingdom’s UN ambassador Omar Hilale said on Tuesday.
