These accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding and failure to keep a safe distance, DGSN pointed out in a press release.
Regarding the control and enforcement of traffic violations, the security services issued 53,792 tickets, submitted 9,394 reports to the public prosecutor’s office, and collected 44,398 transactional fines totaling MAD 9.8 million, according to the same source.
The DGSN also reported the impoundment of 5,305 vehicles, the withdrawal of 9,394 driving licences and the immobilization of 538 vehicles.
Twenty seven people were killed and 2,873 injured, 103 of them seriously, in the 2,126 road accidents that occurred in urban areas during the period stretching from February 3-9, according to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).
