Digital Transition Minister Highlights Morocco's Experience in Digital Sovereignty

Speaking at an annual conference on strategic issues, organized by the Academy of Strategic and Defense Studies under the theme “Digital sovereignty and its impact on national security,” Seghrouchni stressed that Morocco, aware of the threats to digital infrastructures worldwide, is committed to strengthening cooperation and coordination in order to establish a secure digital space and promote a healthy digital environment.

She said that the Kingdom holds an important place internationally in terms of cybersecurity, which is reflected in the achievement of a 97.5% rate in the International Telecommunication Union’s Cybersecurity Index, ranking Morocco among the top 5 Arab countries in this field, recalling that the Kingdom occupied first place in Africa in the fight against malware, according to the Interpol report for the year 2022.

Interacting with questions from the audience at the end of her speech, the Minister emphasized the importance of training talent and skills in the fields of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, citing, in this regard, the programs overseen by her department to increase the number of graduates from Moroccan public universities in the fields of digitization and advanced technologies for the period 2023-2027 (from 8,000 to 22,500 per year by 2027).

She added that 183 new digital training programs have been approved in 12 universities across Morocco, covering several fields including programming, AI, big data and cybersecurity.

The Minister also recalled the deep-rooted historical ties that unite the Omani and Moroccan peoples, as well as the strong fraternal ties between the two countries’ Heads of State, HM King Mohammed VI and the Sultan of Oman, HM Haitham bin Tariq.
