Concerning peace and security issues, the Moroccan delegation reiterated the pressing need of respecting the fundamental principles of good neighborliness, dialogue and non-interference in the internal affairs of States and the respect of their sovereignty and territorial integrity, while stressing the importance of not harboring or supporting terrorist and separatist groups, which sow instability in the continent’s different regions.

Turning to the institutional reform of the African Union (AU), the Moroccan delegation reiterated the Kingdom’s support for an ambitious institutional transformation that would give leadership to the AU and strengthen Africa’s voice on the international stage. In this respect, the delegation stressed the imperative of restructuring the Union’s entities to improve the organization’s overall performance, while noting that strengthening good administrative and financial governance within the institution should be central to the aforementioned institutional reform effort.

With regard to climate-related issues, the Moroccan delegation reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to enabling Africa to build its own model of climate resilience, stressing that Morocco’s action is inspired by the Royal Initiatives launched at the first Africa Action Summit, which have fostered the emergence of strategic partnerships in the fight against the harmful effects of climate change. The Moroccan delegation also stressed the need for financial and technical support to ensure the success of continental initiatives in this field.

Concerning health safety issues, the Moroccan delegation highlighted the many cooperative actions undertaken by Morocco on a continental scale during 2024, including the provision of a Moroccan-produced MPOX diagnostic kit to African countries affected by the epidemic. In addition, the Moroccan side underlined her firm commitment to supporting the activities of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Africa), and to promoting its cooperative actions with African countries in the context of strengthening health security.

With regard to the AU’s participation in the G20, the Moroccan delegation stressed the pressing need of equipping the pan-African institution with solid, integrated instruments as part of its participation in this important forum. In the same context, it stressed the need to ensure an inclusive approach in the development of common African positions on issues of strategic importance to the continent, in order to maximize the benefits derived by the AU from its participation in G20 activities.

As in previous years, the Kingdom of Morocco's participation was marked by a significant, high value-added contribution on all the topics on the agenda of the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), which closed late on Sunday night.
