Speaking at the African Cybersecurity Forum, which runs from February 3 to 5 in Rabat, Rabii underscored the importance of “robust and sovereign” cybersecurity in ensuring a resilient digital transformation across Africa.

“Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has made cybersecurity a national priority by establishing governance structures and implementing ambitious strategies aimed at enhancing the resilience of critical infrastructure and strengthening the capabilities of the national cyber incident management center (maCERT),” Rabii said.

He pointed to escalating geopolitical tensions and increasingly sophisticated cyber threats as key challenges, calling for innovative technologies to safeguard critical infrastructure and bolster Africa’s digital ecosystem.

Highlighting the need for a proactive stance against transnational cyber threats, Rabii stressed the importance of international cooperation, intelligence-sharing, and capacity-building.

“Initiatives such as Smart Africa and the African Network of Cybersecurity Authorities (ANCA) are instrumental in harmonizing digital policies across the continent and fostering a unified response to cyber threats,” said Rabii, who also serves as ANCA’s vice-president.

The forum, organized by the DGSSI under the National Defense Administration in line with High Royal Instructions, brings together Moroccan and international experts, senior government officials, business leaders, cybersecurity professionals, researchers, and academics.

Morocco is pushing for a collaborative and forward-looking approach to cybersecurity and technological sovereignty, Brigadier General El Mostafa Rabii, Director of the Center for Monitoring, Detection and Response to Cyberattacks under the General Directorate of Information Systems Security (DGSSI) said on Monday.
