“Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco is continuing its modernization efforts by launching a major reform of the Family Code. This initiative aims to address identified shortcomings and aligns with a global movement where gender equality has become a priority,” Chaptini told MAP.

This reform represents “an opportunity to strengthen the rule of law, ensure social justice, protect the rights of women and children, and align Moroccan law with societal developments and international commitments.”

“By placing human rights and equality at the heart of the reforms, this initiative marks a thoughtful transition towards a more inclusive legal system, where traditions and international commitments do not conflict but rather complement each other, thereby reinforcing the cohesion and stability of Moroccan society”, she noted.

The reform of the Family Code establishes a smart harmonization between modernity and Moroccan traditions, according to legal expert Rita Maria Chaptini, a member of the Montpellier-based International Institute of Geopolitical Studies (IIEG).
