Speaking at a joint press briefing with Yemeni Foreign Minister Shayea Mohsen Al-Zindani, Bourita emphasized that Morocco-Yemen relations have always been based on sincere brotherhood and active solidarity, adapting to the evolving geopolitical landscape of the Arab region, underlining the shared ambition of HM King Mohammed VI and President Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi to maintain the momentum and strength that have long characterized these ties.
Bourita described the Joint Commission as a positive step in advancing bilateral cooperation, reaffirming Morocco’s unwavering support for Yemen’s legitimate authorities, territorial integrity, and national unity, while rejecting foreign interference in its internal affairs.
As part of the commission’s work, both sides agreed to update economic agreements to align with sectoral cooperation in investment and trade, reactivate political consultation mechanisms, and strengthen bilateral cooperation in education and training.
Bourita announced that Morocco will grant 100 annual scholarships to Yemeni students, along with 20 vocational training scholarships, with the potential to increase to 150 scholarships based on the success of the program.
Discussions also covered regional and international developments, with both ministers highlighting a shared vision on issues related to the Middle East, Libya, Sudan, and Lebanon.
“We hope, as stated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, that the ceasefire in Gaza is respected and that the second and third phases of the agreement are implemented, to move away from the logic of crisis management in favor of lasting solutions, as was emphasized by the Sovereign,” Bourita stressed.
He also noted that the importance of the ceasefire lies in the initiation of a genuine peace process for the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Al-Quds as its capital, within the framework of a two-state solution, alongside the State of Israel.
The positions of the two countries on Arab issues are based on support for legitimacy and territorial integrity, rejection of foreign interference and support for peaceful solutions that preserve the territorial unity of States, in a logic of support for state institutions, whether in Lebanon, Sudan or Libya. These “constant” positions, he stressed, are part of the diplomatic doctrine that Morocco defends tirelessly regardless of circumstances.
