Speaking at the opening of a roundtable discussion organized by the National Observatory of Migration, Zerouali emphasized that Morocco has opted for an innovative, broad, unprecedented, and holistic concept of humane border management.

The goal is “to support various stages of the migrant’s journey, from the first contact and identification of vulnerabilities to appropriate referral and integration,” he said.

“This is a process that does not stop halfway, but rather accompanies the migrant throughout their life journey, fostering their potential and making them a vector of wealth and diversity in Moroccan society,” he added. Humane border management will enhance operational border governance toward a more comprehensive global governance framework.

In this regard, he pointed out that the uniqueness of Morocco’s approach is also reflected in HM the King’s Initiative aimed at enabling Atlantic access for Sahel countries. This major geostrategic initiative has elevated the notions of inclusivity and humanism in border management.

HM the King’s vision has transcended the traditional approach to borders by using them as a means to promote individual well-being and collective prosperity through economic integration and regional cooperation, he further noted.

He also recalled that the South-North Regional Charter for Humanitarian Border Management, proposed by Morocco in 2023 within the framework of the Rabat Process, aligns with this perspective, noting that the Kingdom will continue discussions and reflections with all its partners for “its collective adoption and realistic and efficient implementation.”

Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, has adopted a humane border management approach that places migrants at the heart of all programs and initiatives launched in this field, said, on Thursday in Rabat, Khalid Zerouali, Wali Director of Migration and Border Surveillance at the Interior Ministry.
