“Amid the rapid acceleration of its major infrastructure and energy transition projects, Morocco is attracting foreign companies, especially French ones,” the newspaper observes, adding that, beyond local initiatives, the Kingdom is positioning itself as “a gateway to Africa.”

Among the major projects, the French newspaper mentions the extension of the high-speed rail line between Tangier and Casablanca, inaugurated in 2018, to Marrakech, with the completion expected in 2030, and the highway connecting Tiznit to Dakhla, completed in 2024.

The French newspaper also cites the “iconic” Tanger Med port, at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, which will soon be complemented by two new port infrastructure: one a few kilometers from Dakhla, on the Atlantic coast of Moroccan Sahara, and the other in Nador, facing the Mediterranean.

“While the local market shows promise, the country is also regarded as a gateway to Africa, particularly sub-Saharan Africa. Its strategic geographical location and robust business network present significant opportunities to some small and medium-sized entreprises,” the publication notes.

The French economic publication points out that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, established in 2018—nearly twenty years after the signing of the free trade agreements between Morocco and the European Union—would also benefit French companies.

At the same time, the same source adds, Moroccan higher education is “growing in strength,” noting that in 2024, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), which has a branch in France, was ranked in the Top 500 of the Times Higher Education university rankings.

Morocco is "more than ever a country with potential" for French Small and Medium-sized entreprises, highlights the French economic and financial daily Les Echos.
