Speaking at a roundtable discussion held as part of the 4th Future Minerals Forum, attended by Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Al-Khorayef, Benali stressed the importance of promoting sustainability in its global sense, mobilizing efforts worldwide and boosting international cooperation.

The Minister added that securing supply requires certain conditions, such as recycling and optimizing interconnections between markets, noting that this will ultimately enable minerals to be supplied at a competitive cost.

Morocco is one of the five countries with a key role to play in the reconfiguration of global value chains, she said, pointing out that it is also the only African country today to be interconnected with Europe and the Atlantic Basin, in terms of logistics, culture and energy.

Benali stated that countries such as Morocco represent a strategic platform for mobilizing major geopolitical blocs, not only to invest in the industrial and production sectors, but also to promote research and development and the use of AI technologies, and to manage power grids efficiently.

In this sense, she stressed the importance of the Kingdom’s position as a key destination for attracting investment in the critical minerals sector, recalling the solid partnership between Morocco and Saudi Arabia in the fields of research and mining, initiated on the occasion of the first edition of the Future Minerals Forum.

She concluded that the “OTC corridor” initiative, a strategic framework based on the principles of origin, transit and certification, aims to make sustainability a common right.

Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, said on Wednesday in Riyadh, that Morocco has now become a key destination for investment in the critical minerals sector.
