Speaking at the opening of the 4th International Meeting of Mining Ministers, Benali said that all eyes are turned towards Africa which abounds in mineral wealth that developers need in their processing industries, stressing that this contribution must be made, as Morocco advocates, in full respect of social rights and labor laws, particularly those relating to the exploitation of children.

The Minister also pointed out that the world needs to adapt sustainable mining practices and responsibly exploit mineral resources to meet the requirements of the global energy transition.

In this respect, Benali reiterated Morocco’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with all international partners and work to transform challenges into investment opportunities, noting the importance of coordinating efforts to develop and perpetuate mineral value chains and ensure their sustainability.

Meanwhile, participants at the conclave recalled the challenges facing the world in terms of clean energy, calling to implement policies supporting sustainable exploration and developing local industries associated with these minerals, while making use of modern technology to optimize the added value of these resources.

The 4th International Meeting of Mining Ministers runs until January 16, with the participation of international mining industry leaders representing 85 countries and heads of 50 international organizations.

The meeting promises to explore new development opportunities for producing countries, and is intended as a global platform that brings together experts and leaders to chart a sustainable future for the mining industries.

Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, reiterated, on Tuesday in Riyadh, Morocco’s commitment to supporting regional and international cooperation in the mining sector.
