These accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding and failure to keep a safe distance, DGSN pointed out in a press release.
With regard to the control and repression of traffic offenses, the security services drew up 48,238 tickets, 9,014 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 39,224 transactional fines were collected, amounting to 8.6 million dirhams, according to the same source.
The DGSN also reported the impoundment of 4,965 vehicles, and the immobilization of 450 others, and the withdrawal of 9,014 driving licenses.
Seventeen people were killed and 2,794 injured, 92 of them seriously, in the 2,139 road accidents that occurred in urban areas from December 23 to 29, according to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).
