Chilean Parliamentary Delegation Praises Development Momentum in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab

During this visit, the Chilean delegation, led by the Speaker of Chile’s Chamber of Deputies, Karol Cariola, and the Vice-President of the Chilean Senate, Matias Walker, held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the region’s Wilaya, Abderrazak El Gourji, during which the Chilean MPs expressed their admiration for the aspects of development and progress in the region.

They also welcomed the quality of infrastructure and investments in the region, just as all other Moroccan regions, highlighting that Dakhla-Oued Eddahab has a bright future thanks to the large-scale projects underway.

Speaking on the Moroccan Sahara, the members of the Chilean delegation reiterated their country’s continuous support to the process led by the UN in order to achieve a just, pragmatic, lasting, realistic, viable, definitive and mutually acceptable solution to this conflict, within the framework of the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco to the UN in April 2007.

During the meeting, attended by elected officials, representatives of human rights bodies and civil society stakeholders, the Secretary-General of the region’s Wilaya, Abderrazak El Gourji, stressed that the visit was an ideal opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties, highlighting the region’s all-round development momentum, which has had a positive impact on the well-being of the population.

The Speaker of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies told the press that her visit to Dakhla was an opportunity to see for herself the development underway in the region, describing this momentum as “interesting and impressive.”

Cariola also highlighted the large-scale projects launched in the region, citing in particular the Dakhla Atlantic port, the Dakhla seawater desalination plant, and the huge investments in renewables.

For his part, the Vice-President of the Chilean Senate, Matias Walker, said that the visit provided an opportunity to learn about all the investment efforts being made in various sectors, expressing the wish to benefit from the Moroccan experience in several fields.

For his part, Chilean Senator Francisco Chahuán welcomed HM King Mohammed VI’s initiative to facilitate Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean, adding that his country sees Morocco as its gateway to the African continent.

On this occasion, the members of the Chilean delegation paid a field visit to the Dakhla Atlantic port, where they followed a presentation by an official of the Regional Investment Center on the mega-projects completed or underway.
