“This is a new dawn in the long-standing, fruitful, and cordial relations between the Moroccan and Nigerien peoples,” Haoua said during the plant’s inauguration in Niamey, expressing gratitude to HM King Mohammed VI for His ongoing support and commitment to Niger.

“Thanks to this excellent cooperation, His Majesty King Mohammed VI has gifted Niger with a 22.5 MVA power plant that will bring more electrical energy to the Nigerien population,” she added.

Niamey region governor Brigadier General Assoumane Abdou Harouna praised Morocco for its steadfast partnership, calling the donation an example of “dynamic and exemplary cooperation.”

He said the power plant, equipped with cutting-edge technology, would strengthen the capacity of Niger’s state-owned electricity company, NIGELEC.

The project, completed in record time, was coordinated by the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation and involved collaboration between Morocco’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and Niger’s Electricity Company (NIGELEC).

Morocco’s donation of "His Majesty King Mohammed VI Power Plant" to Niger marks a historic milestone in relations between the two countries, Niger’s Energy Minister Amadou Haoua said on Thursday.
