During the Conference, organized on November 26-28 in the Austrian capital, Director General of the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR) Saïd Mouline presented the agency’s capacity-building initiatives for the African continent to Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi, according to a press release from AMSSNuR on Thursday.

A brochure detailing all activities carried out by AMSSNuR, as well as the prospects for expanding African South-South cooperation, advocated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was distributed to delegations visiting the “Morocco Booth”, the press release says.

The booth was set up and run by National Center for Energy Sciences and Nuclear Techniques (CNESTEN) in partnership with AMSSNuR, the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST), the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), The National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) and the National Institute of Oncology (CHU).

During his visit to the booth, the IAEA Director General praised the exemplary partnership between Morocco and the IAEA, highlighting Morocco’s contributions in strategic sectors such as agriculture and health. He also emphasized Moroccan expertise as an essential lever for national and regional development in Africa.

As part of the conference, AMSSNuR signed a memorandum of understanding with the Senegalese Authority for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (ARSN), in the presence of the two countries’ ambassadors, the same source adds. This agreement aims to share information between the two regulatory authorities and promote African cooperation in nuclear and radiological safety and security.

Morocco's efforts to strengthen cooperation with African countries in areas of nuclear and radiological safety and security were highlighted at the Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications held in Vienna.
