On the sidelines of the FOPREL 30th extraordinary session, held at the headquarters of the Moroccan Parliament, Rolando Redondo told MAP that upgrading Moroccan Parliament’s status from “permanent observer member” to “advanced partner” as part of the Forum, is in line with HM the King’s Vision for South-South cooperation and rounds off a long process where Morocco has played the role of gateway for Africa to Latin America as a whole, and particularly to Central America, the Caribbean basin and Mexico.

Rolando Redondo, who is also President of the National Congress of Honduras, said that FOPREL members’ approval of the Moroccan Parliament’s status as a member of FOPREL is “a sign of increased closeness, and offers a common ground for action on many issues, as do several other regional bodies working to strengthen South-South cooperation”.

He noted that Morocco has shown an active presence at FOPREL, as the Kingdom “has not been a mere observer member, but has always played an active role and showed the same commitment, responsibility and action as a partner member”, he observed, stressing that Morocco’s commitment to partnership with FOPREL and to strengthening parliamentary cooperation is held with great esteem and admiration in Latin America.

He added that Morocco, the next host of the 2030 World Cup, is committed to numerous development projects, the fruit of a forward-looking vision for a better future. “We aspire to build on this experience, which encourages us to further strengthen our relations with the Kingdom in many areas”, he stated.

Vice President of the Forum of Presidents of Legislative Powers of Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico (FOPREL) Luis Rolando Redondo hailed here on Wednesday the pioneering role of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in promoting cooperation between countries of the South and in bolstering, in particular, cooperation and closeness between Morocco and Latin American countries, as well as between them and Africa.
