On behalf of the Panamanian government and people, Vasquez conveyed his high esteem for the Royal Message addressed to the President of the Republic.

Panama’s suspension of its recognition of the separatist entity comes ahead of the country’s term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council starting January 1, 2025.

In this respect, Panama will actively contribute to seeking a definitive solution to the regional dispute over Moroccan Sahara, within the parameters established by the latest UN Security Council resolution.

This decision by the Republic of Panama also reinforces the international momentum already being exerted by several countries worldwide, in favor of a definitive solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, based on the Autonomy Initiative presented by Morocco since 2007.

In the context of this new momentum in bilateral relations, Morocco and Panama are offered many promising prospects to give new impetus to their cooperation in various strategic sectors, through a solid partnership based on friendship and mutual trust.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita held a video conference on Wednesday with his Panamanian counterpart Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez, following the message sent by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to President of the Republic of Panama H.E. Mr José Raul Mulino, upon his country's decision to suspend all recognition of the so-called “sadr”, stressing that this decision opens a new page in bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Panama.
