This NMD acknowledges the need for equitable, resilient and sustainable industrial growth, in line with the transformative approach of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), aimed at promoting equitable, growth-oriented globalization while adhering to the principles of social and environmental justice, underlined Farhane in an address to the 52nd UNIDO’s session of Industrial Development Board.

UNIDO’s projects in Morocco “are fully aligned with our national priorities, and focused on sustainable consumption, the circular economy, energy efficiency and green hydrogen.”

“By strengthening our partnership with UNIDO through the Programme for Country Partnership (CPP), Morocco is committed to fostering industrial sustainability, reducing carbon emissions and accelerating the green transition,” he stated.

Aware of the major challenges involved in decarbonizing the industrial sector, Morocco has placed this objective at the heart of its priorities, with a view to building a green, carbon-neutral national industry while strengthening energy sovereignty, the diplomat detailed.

Farhane backed up his words with the success of Morocco’s automotive sector, one of the most carbon-neutral platforms in the world.

This sector breaks production and export records every year, he argued, noting that this is what makes Morocco attractive for car manufacturing, and what has enabled the Moroccan platform to grow so rapidly, reaching a capacity of one million vehicles a year by 2025.

“It is necessary to invest in innovative, sustainable and inclusive technologies, as we are entering a new industrial era.” In this sense, he believes that UNIDO plays a central role in promoting fair globalization by developing, in collaboration with member states, innovative strategies aimed at promoting growth while adhering to the principles of social and environmental justice.

Farhane also pointed out that fair globalization and a sustainable industrial future are collective objectives that can put developing countries and economies in transition on the path to economic and social prosperity.

In this respect, he recalled the Rabat Declaration, adopted on February 6 at the High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries, of which UNIDO was a partner. The Declaration emphasized the need for a paradigm shift in international cooperation to promote equitable, inclusive and just transitions towards sustainable development, he added.

Farhane stressed the importance of South-South and triangular cooperation in meeting countries’ real development needs, through the implementation of concrete projects benefiting several countries.

The Kingdom is therefore ready to share its experiences, on request within the framework of the PCP, particularly in the fields of sustainable water management, the circular economy and the green transition of industrial value chains in sectors such as textiles, plastics, agri-food and construction, he affirmed.

Morocco is fully committed to being a forerunner in promoting innovation and sustainable development, in accordance with His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s clear-sighted vision, embodied in the New Development Model (NMD), Morocco's Ambassador Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, Azzeddine Farhane, said on Monday.
