This distinction crowns three years of sustained efforts, during which schools commit to raising awareness and educating students to adopt eco-responsible behaviors, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection said in a press release, adding that these actions are integrated into the school curriculum and aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This diligent work fosters collective awareness, resulting in positive changes among all school stakeholders, particularly students, who become true eco-citizens committed to protecting their environment both inside and outside the school, the press release added.

Among 820 candidate schools, 90 earned the Green Pavilion, demonstrating their exceptional dedication to environmental stewardship,  the press release stressed, adding that this certification is awarded after a rigorous process following a progressive approach centered on three key themes: water management, energy conservation, and waste management.

Additionally, 208 schools achieved the Silver Certificate for excelling in two key themes, while 230 schools received the Bronze Certificate for addressing one theme with the same rigor.

In a continuous effort, 61 Eco-Schools renewed their Green Pavilion, showcasing their sustained commitment. These schools expanded their initiatives to include four complementary themes: biodiversity conservation, healthy eating, climate change awareness, and solidarity, while reinforcing the primary themes.

Finally, for the fifth consecutive year, Eco-School students had the opportunity to showcase their talents through the “Once Upon a Time in an Eco-School” good practices competition, open to Green Pavilion-certified schools. This edition, focused on recycling, recorded 40 entries from two regional education and training academies.

Students presented their projects through three-minute videos, emphasizing creative and innovative initiatives. A total of 90 students, accompanied by 20 educators and 20 school directors, were celebrated during a vibrant regional ceremony. Each participant was awarded a digital tablet in recognition of their efforts and creativity.

The Eco-Schools program, a flagship initiative of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, has achieved a new milestone, with 90 schools earning the Green Flag for the 2023/2024 school year, surpassing the 89 recognized in the previous edition.
