Speaking at the opening ceremony of this two-day event, organized under Morocco’s presidency of the HRC, the Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani highlighted Morocco’s significant contributions to the human rights cause, emphasizing the country’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding fundamental freedoms.

He also lauded Morocco’s efforts to strengthen human rights frameworks, both within its borders and globally. Morocco’s leadership in human rights is reflected in its distinguished international standing and its unwavering dedication to the promotion of these universal values, Al Zayani said.

“The Kingdom of Morocco’s presidency of the UN Human Rights Council serves as a testament to the successes it has achieved in this critical field,” he underlined.

Al Zayani also commended the Kingdom’s hosting of the HRC Retreat, underscoring how this initiative demonstrates Morocco’s continuous efforts to advance human rights under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The Bahraini minister further noted his country’s own achievements in human rights and its active participation in numerous bilateral and multilateral initiatives aimed at protecting and promoting human dignity.

Attended by ambassadors, permanent representatives from HRC member States, and representatives of UN regional and political groups, the retreat aims to address key challenges in human rights protection, while exploring potential reforms to the Human Rights Council, the UN’s central human rights body.

The gathering marks another step in the ongoing dialogue on strengthening the global human rights system.

Bahrain commended Morocco’s pivotal role in advancing human rights both domestically and internationally, during a speech at the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) Retreat in Rabat on Thursday.
